The David Truebridge Design studio in Hawkes Bay New Zealand has been using VisualMILL® CAM software from Mecsoft Corporation in a production setting since 2005. We featured a case study of this Studio’s work in our September 2015 MecSoft Quarterly newsletter.
In their newest Navicula lighting design, the algorithmic model is created in Rhinoceros CAD and then opened directly in VisualMILL® where its structural components are machined.

The Navicula is derived from nature, in this case from one of the many microscopic diatoms that float around in the oceans. The flowing, segmented form is shipped as a kitset and assembled on site with push-in nylon clips.
The thin curved pieces of CNC-cut bamboo plywood create a flowing structure that also casts magical patterns. It is lit from within with a row of LED pin-point lights.
