Drawing toolpaths

Post by surf37water »

Maybe someone could help, I am very new to the program.
Is it possible to convert 3D splines/polylines to toolpaths? Basically, is it possible to draw the toolpath that you want?

I wrote a script that generates 3D splines from a raster image in processing. Given the percentage of black in the pixel, the vertex of the spline is raised or lowered, creating a long bezier curve that moves up and down in 3D space. The splines are intended to be the tip of a tapered bit in Rhinocam, so that when the bit plunges deeper, it creates a wider cut, thereby making the image on the mill. I could make a 3D model of what I want and use the standard surface milling methods, but I would like the router bit to follow each spline because it will be less time consuming and cleaner. Does this sound like it is possible in RhinoCam? Let me know if you think you know how to do this, or if you need clarification.

Yes, this is possible. Use the Engraving toolpath method and select the splines that you want to be converted to toolpaths. Simple as that.
