restricting the tool angle

Post by Mark Angus »

Will you be able to restrict the tool angle (B axis) , when using a 5 axis method?

At this point we don't have any way of restricting separate axis motion limits. Once we have a beta out you can give us some feedback on how this should be done.

I know this is too early but this is the only example I have.

Maybe we only need the "constrain tool within conical angles" to keep it simple.

Hi Mark,
it looks like the dialog is from Moduleworks. Since we are using the same toolkit for our 5 axis solution this should be possible. Whether we will have this in the first beta or not is questionable at this point.

Hi Mecsoft

I got it from the SUM3D 5 axis demo video- which also seems to use that toolkit . I was looking at their RhinoNC product.

Yes, Sum3D also uses the Moduleworks toolkit. The big difference is that they have just slapped together the Moduleworks UI. We have taken a different tack. We are creating our own UI to make it more streamlined with our way of doing things. This will give you a much better user experience as well eliminate a lot of training headaches. That is why we cannot offer all of the parameters that Moduleworks offers until we feel that it truly is necessary to our users. We are taking great care is selecting the parameters we want our users to be able to control and leaving a lot as default or automatic parameters. (That is one of the reasons why it is taking a bit longer that we anticipated in getting the 5 axis module out).

Hi Mecsoft

Thanks for the feed back. I know the beta version will probably not be perfect, but I do think that , before the final version is put out there would need to be some way of limiting the amout of tilt in the b axis especially on surfaces that angled more the 45 degrees to the z axis. I realised this even more when watching the SUM3D 5 axis demo video. link below (paste in browser) - 9mb file download

javascript:go('./areafile/video/English/Sum3D/11_5_axis_milling.exe')

Hi Mecsoft

Do you think we will see a beta 5 axis module before the end of the year, or is that being unrealistic .

Mark, we are making progress and we are hoping to get the Beta out before December. I will upload some pictures so you can get an idea of what we are working on.

Surface normal projection machining toolpath. As you can see the entry/exit motions are not quite right. This is something we are working on currently.

Fantastic. Thanks for the images. It was appreciated.

It looks far better than I could have imagined it to be.
