Purchase RhinoCAM or VisualMill?

Post by kjhuebner »

Good day -- I am debating whether to buy VisualMill 6.0 std or RhinoCAM 2.0 std.

I have a Taig Mill and I do prototype work in plastic.

My current opinion is...
RhinoCAM - Advantages: Ease of use with CAD/CAM operations in one application.
RhinoCAM - Disadvantages: Rhino CAD and Mecsoft CAM products are tightly coupled. Whereby, I cannot replace either product with different vendor in the future.

Any thoughts are much appreciated! I would especially like to hear details regarding your opinion. :P

Thanks!

If you need CAD & CAM and don't have a CAD system we would recommend Rhino + RhinoCAM. However if you already have a CAD system (that is not Rhino) then it is better to go with VisualMILL. This is how we position our products.

I use Rhino and Rhinocam and cannot imagine how annoying it would be to have to use an external toolpathing program. I constantly make small changes to the geometry and can immediately re-toolpath with Rhinocam.

One thing to consider is that if something goes wrong with either program it can effect the other. I use Rhinocam basic and it's OK as long as I'm not having problems with Rhino. See my post on Flamingo.
