prismatic v carving

Post by postalgbv »

Is there a way to v-carve or chamfer where the ridge line is level, and the height difference ends up being made up by wall height?

For instance, if you Engrave a letter with a big v-bit so deep that all of the letter has a nice 45 degree bevel to a sharp ridge line, the thinner parts strokes of the letter will barely be raised off the surface, while the wider stroke areas of the letter will be thicker. Essentially, what I am looking for is this same exact look when viewed from a Plan view, but the ridge line is flat, so the surface of the prismatic letter is level. The thinner strokes of the letter would have more 'flat, extruded wall' below them to make up for the height difference. And the widest part of the letter would bevel all the way to the bottom.

I believe the toolpath would look exactly like the letter in Plan view, but go up and down..

Good call adding that picture!

I haven't actually done any V-carving yet, but I like the way your suggestion looks.
