trying to profile part.

Post by Hoop »

This is my desired part:

This is my loaded stock:

I make a profile path from the following selected curves:

This is my result:

I just want to profile the outside of this part. Really i don't need to cut "around it," just the little indentations on the sides, since my stock is already the proper OD.

I have tried alot of settings but I cannot get the output to stay on the OUTSIDE of the part. It does a circular pattern and takes off extra material...

What may I be doing wrong? Might I have to use cylindrical stock instead of stock from selection?

For profiling you would need just a 2D curve. It looks like you are selecting 3D curves. Just extract the 2-D silhouette of the geometry you want to profile in Rhino and use this geometry in the profiling toolpath. Think of the 21/2 axis toolpath as an extrude cut operation along the Z axis with the profile curve as the geometry being extruded.

Worked like a charm.

If I select only the side recesses and input a large clearance plane it works just as I want it to. :)
