stacking text in vcarve

Has someone figured out a method to do stacked text while making 3d routed signs. I model the text layers and then bolean union but things dont seem to be recognized properly.

I am quite new to trying to do a routed sign with stacking text. I am thinking of using the last name in allcaps and larger with the first names on top of that all in a different font and small case. I believe the lettering would have to be booleaned together for routing. Looking for pointers to complete this task. Help please. I have it working with 3d printing but not with the routing process.
