4TH AXIS ENGRAVE - TEXT IS "SKEWED"

Post by 1363099642 »

I am trying to engrave text around the major diameter of a feed screw. The longer the text string, the more it skews & the text gap closes in & eventually travels towards the minor diameter of the thread. In this screen shot I tried to break it up into multiple operations, this did not work. The "wrap" does not appear to follow the rotation of the axis. I have fought this for a while , starting with AlibreCAM 2012. I can make multiple lines to get around this, but I really only want a single line. Is this a bug or just a limitation?

Well, I apper to have gotten it. Lucky I think. I created the text string on lower side of the screw. Changed to wireframe view & angled the text in the direction of the pitch of the screw on the opposite side. Then I selected the entire text string, chose "wrap curve on cylinder", chose the diameter of 4.000. Then deleted the straight line text string. Next I re-selected the curved text string, went to the transform menu, chose move, selected my points & placed it. The engraving in the simulation looks spot on. When I make this I will provide a photo. There should be an easier way, but this will work.
