cutting dovetail slot in 4 axis

Post by 1438631165 »

Hi everyone,
I need some pointers to get a series of dovetail slots milled into a furniture part. How would you approach this? The part needs to stop rotating during the slot-cutting, so that the sides have the correct angle.
Thanks for the help!

Phil

You would program this using Rotate table setups (indexed 4 axis). The rotate table operation will allow you to rotate the coordinate system to the specified angle along the axis of rotation and will stay at this angle for all operations (2 & 3 axis) programmed under this setup. For the part in question, we have programmed the dovetail slot using 2 axis profiling under the rotate table operation. You can then repeat the rotate table setups for additional orientations. Rotate table setup can be located on the program tab under Setup - Rotate Table Setup.
