Configuration for tiny parts?

Post by TimG »

I am looking to optimize my setting for creation of tiny jewelery parts that have lots of organic type curved surfaces. Primarily using a 1/32" or smaller ball mill or even some .005" tip 15 deg total angle taper bits on ring sized or smaller parts. Seems that I get facets on my curves frequently and I am just not sure which setting I should be playing with to try and get the true curve at that small scale. Also have run into occasions where I get gouges on the first step of a rough out around letters and then no gouge on the next levels down.

Any hits at what to tweak?

I use faceting tolerance 0.001 in mm when I mill small parts. This is equal to 0.00004 inch. I must set this in the menu -->preferences -->Tolerances (Faceting tolerances in Version 4) before VisualMill reads (facets) the model. I hope this will help to avoid the faceting surface. Do not import as STL either. IGES and rhino is better as VisualMill does the faceting.
Hope these helps.
