RhinoCAM memory usage and file size

Post by Mitch Heynick »

I know this is a subject that has already been covered some. Just wanted to see if my results correspond with what's considered "normal".

I have a file that is 2.8 megs in Rhino without RhinoCAM - render meshes included. Without meshes, it's 525 Kb. Rhino open with a blank file consumes around 3 megs of RAM, according to the taskmanager, and with this file loaded, 10 megs.

After having run RhinoCAM on it, programmed 4 operations - Rough, re-rough and two reasonably fine finish - the saved file size is up to 20+ megs . Taskmanager says it's using 60 megs for Rhino3 while it's open with this file. If I run simulations on it (polygon, so I can see the surface quality somewhat, but not that fine), the taskmanager says it runs up to around 270 megs of RAM. That's a fair hunk for an object for which the posted toolpath output file is only 2.5 megs. --Mitch
