Michel Belair is an immensely talented Canadian luthier with an excellent educational background in music. As a former student of Alvaro Pierri and Roberto Aussel, he earned a master’s degree in performance at McGill University and continued his guitar studies in Paris.
When he commissioned his second guitar from the world-renowned guitar maker Daniel Friederich, the desire to build his own guitars struck him. He then learned the basics of guitar making from luthier Jean Rompré. Thereafter, he refined his skills in Europe and benefited from the expert assistance of Daniel Friederich among others.
The RhinoCAM Difference
Michel Bélair Luthier
With no previous experience in CAD or CAM, I was able to create my first toolpath in RhinoCAM in just a few days. Once I learned the basics of Rhino CAD, RhinoCAM’s intuitive integration with Rhino made the learning process very straightforward. I am learning something new every day!

Michel recommends Indian Rosewood for the back and sides because of its excellent acoustic properties and straight grain for stability. Michel also recommends rosewood from Madagascar.
